Garrett’s police chief Vancyk realises the implications of what he has done, while the Woods sisters disagree about whether or not they should try to find a door out of this alternative realm.

It feels redundant to suggest that Butcher’s Block is weird, with all the strange goblin children, floating staircases or long-limbed doll-headed figures, but finally we’re getting a sense that not everything is going the Peaches’ way.

Alice still won’t wake up, and once she’s had an insect extracted from her throat in a bizarre baptism of blood by father Peach (Rutger Hauer) she appears to have no intention of leaving this horror show. Luckily Zoe has managed to keep a sense of perspective and starts to cause trouble by rescuing Izzy from being sacrificed.

The action with Louise and Luke appeared to come to a head (ahem!) last week with the latter’s gruesome murder, but death is no obstacle in this macabre world, and heads continue to roll as the body count mounts up.

In many ways, because we’ve been exposed to the horrors of this world for five consecutive weeks, the shock value is slightly muted, and like Alice we’ve become institutionalised. There’s still a lot to play for in the final hour as the show enters its endgame, and I hope this is rushed or resolved by weird means alone.

Verdict: It’s about time for the Peach clan to have the tables turned on them, though I’m not sure where exactly that will come from, even though the cracks are starting to appear. Not as shocking as previous instalments, everything is now set up for the finale. Peachy! 7/10
