Danger awaits Bernard and Lenina in the Savage Lands, where the world is flipped on its head. John grapples with staying true to himself as paths entwine.
John wakes up to the reality of what has happened in the Savage Lands – the massacre of tourists visiting from New London – and the realisation that surely there will be retribution. Taking pity on Lenina and Bernard, John and his mother (a great turn from Demi Moore) shield the foreigners from the resistance, led by a formidable Kate Fleetwood.
In the opening episodes, Moore’s role felt incidental, and it’s only here that we start to understand the role that she and her son have to play. It’s a case of reaching the barrier to gain safety, and not everyone makes it out alive. Significantly, John does survive, and embarks on the next phase of his life.
Verdict: All three episodes so far have been very different, albeit far from original. This week’s ‘getting the enemy prisoners to safety’ trope is a well-worn one, but at least Alden Ehrenreich’s John gets the chance to kick into gear. 7/10
