Following the previous night’s events, Elle wakes up in Joseph’s apartment. Meanwhile officer Davis continues to track Elle down
In the third part of this animated series set between Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, we pick things up with Elle recovering from a stun blast. Joseph realised that she had killed Senator Bannister at an unlicensed boxing match and picked her up before the police could. We’re still unaware as to what’s on her media device and the big question this week (as is common in the Blade Runner universe) is whether or not she’s a human or a replicant.
The Voight-Kampff testing apparatus is set up and, cigarette in hand, Joseph runs a number of personal questions past her to determine whether or not her responses indicate real or implanted memories. Is she a replicant or just a girl with amnesia? Elsewhere, Officer Davis shows she can hold her own with uncooperative. members of the underworld, before setting her sights onto Doc Badger.
Verdict: See this as a single story chopped up into chapters and the pacing/reveals make perfect sense. As Blade Runner tie-ins go, this may not have the depth of the comic books (yet) but it’s a welcome visit to this universe. 7/10
