Jefferson is captured by Looker, tortured and left for dead. Looker and her acolytes make a run for the baby. Anissa makes a stand. Jennifer and Khalil make a choice.

There is a lot to enjoy here, not the least of which is how refreshing it is for a villain to have not read the script. Looker makes a very sensible choice here. It’s wrong, but she makes it and she does so because she and Jefferson have never fought before. That’s clever writing and it doesn’t diminish her as a character either. The Taekwondo in an evening gown during her fight with Anissa? Maybe does a little bit if nothing else because it’s incongruous for how she’s done things up to now. That being said it’s a very good fight scene so we’ll let it go.

There’s some fun Jefferson stuff this week too. I especially loved his nasty little smile when he’s been ‘killed’ and is in fact fully charged. Plus, again, Jefferson displays some welcome humanity. He makes a bad call, knows he’s done it and corrects. And as the episode closes, he and Lyn also have to come face to face with the fact one of their daughters has fled.

That’s, to my tremendous and pleasant surprise, the best part of this episode. Jennifer and Khalil making a run for it makes perfect sense as neither is quite on point with their respective sides. I honestly hope they’re away a while too, because there’s some real mileage to these characters I’d like to see the show explore.

Verdict: This is another cracking episode in a strong second season. Action and character are in lockstep, we get the Jefferson/Gambi reunion and the status quo gets upended again. Good stuff. 8/10
