Oliver Queen’s story comes to an end…
The founding father of the CW’s DC universe, Arrow, wrapped up with this ten-episode season, that answers some longstanding questions, poses others, and generally ensures that Oliver Queen and his cohorts will not be forgotten. It’s a bit of a shame that the entire Crisis crossover isn’t on here as there are elements that might not quite make sense to a newbie coming in – but let’s be honest, by this stage of the game, these episodes are for the fans who have stuck with Oliver through thick, thin and some definitely weaker moments!
There’s plenty of action and character development through the ten hours here, capstoned by a finale that showcases the core members of Oliver’s team, itself prefaced by what’s regarded as a backdoor pilot for the next generation of adventure for this group. There’s not a huge amount of value added material for the set – the British version doesn’t have the whole Crisis that is included for the US market as that was released separately – but we get a CW special that prefaced the finale, looking back at the show and its place in DC and television history, as well as panels from the 2019 San Diego Comic Con and short deleted scenes, presented with their appropriate episodes.
Verdict: The longest lasting of the CW series goes out with an appropriate flourish. 9/10
