Laura and Salim’s quest forces them outside of their comfort zones as they learn to let go of their pasts. Trapped in a perilous situation, Shadow is surprised by a new side of Wednesday.

At the end of this episode we only have two more episodes left of this season, which is definitely back on track again after Season 2’s meanderings. Saying that, apart from the conclusion of the Mike Ainsel / Riverside sub-plot by the end of this year, I wouldn’t expect much else to be concluded, as demonstrated in the many threads this week, some of which are just beginning or hearing fruit.

Laura and Salim rock up at a diverse party where everyone is invited to be who they want to be. It’s a great diversion for Salim, who ultimately gets back his mojo and faith, though Laura is there to meet leprechaun Liam Doyle (Iwan Rheon – Game of Thrones) hoping that he’ll procure Odin’s spear with which she can kill Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Shadow has been drugged by Tyr – he even rips someone’s throat out who gets too close – which summons Wednesday to his son’s aid, and a battle to the death, settled like the old ways. Finally, Technical Boy is still glitching, and the procedure to re-set him involves a ‘head grabber’ being bolted to his head as his subconscious mind does its best to get a grip.

Verdict: Lacking both Lakeside and Danny Trejo this week, American Gods still has plot aplenty and enough interesting characters to hold our attention as it moves into this year’s endgame. 7/10
