In Lakeside, Shadow grows closer to Marguerite and uncovers the surprising truth behind a local crime spree. Wednesday makes his own shocking discovery, with deadly consequences.

After his emotional farewell to Demeter last week, Wednesday is back on the road again, but things are not going to plan. Johan the berserker (initially Marilyn Manson, but now rendered as a CGI character) is getting closer to Wednesday (an increasingly world-weary Ian MacShane), as are Laura Moon and Salim, who have brokered a deal with Mr World and his cronies to destroy the god formerly known as Odin.

Shadow is trying to settle back in to Lakeside, learning to skate next to the ‘old clunker’ on the ice and growing ever closer to Marguerite. Whipping up a snowstorm in the hot tub, Shadow experiences a brief respite from the coming storm, which is truly on its way… and on multiple fronts! Elsewhere, Bilquis is looking for direction following her escape from incarceration and discovers that she has a role to play in finding ‘The Other’, who will work with Shadow as their saviour.

Verdict: Lots of plot and the further unravelling of threads, but it’s only in the last few minutes that the tempo is increased and the ominous sense of something ‘big’ is thrown our way. 7/10
