Laura Moon is transported to a new reality, Wednesday catches up with a new flame and the search continues in Lakeside.

It was inevitable that the Lakeside story would have to be rationed across this season’s 10 episodes, but it’s sorely missed this week as the emphasis is around Laura Moon and a new god.

Laura finds herself in a transport hub for the deceased – purgatory – and is required to relives key moments of her past. She doesn’t want to be here, desperate to get home (and she’s missing the deceased Mad Sweeney) but it’s not that easy to leave. The scenes are fun, Emily Browning’s Laura having quite the mouth on her, but you can’t help feel it’s filling time to give the character something to do.

Wednesday (Ian McShane) continues his recruitment drive, this time dropping in to the institutionalised Blythe Danner’s (Futureworld) Miss Wells, someone with whom the Norse God has ‘history’, but I’ll let you find out just how cosy the relationship is.

Verdict: It can’t be Lakeside all the time, but scenes away from the Wisconsin hotspot merely remind how much you want to be back on the ‘A’ plot again. 7/10
