Logan is shaken by what he witnessed. Mildred isn’t exactly welcomed back with open arms to the Boise Blanc. Jharrell must face an uncomfortable truth about his brother.

So Isaiah has been brutally stabbed by Manny and the powers he took from various 4400ers have returned. Logan finds the Rev and rushes for help, but once everyone rushes to the room the mystery deepens, and suspicions begin to be roused. Mildred, with her newly returned powers and tendency towards emotional outbursts, becomes – in the minds of some – a prime suspect, and starts to question whether or not she should ever have returned to the hotel.

Claudette finds herself confronted by a group of 44orumers led by the vicious ex head guard Ken. They aren’t quite ready to take on Claudette, confident as she is, but that doesn’t stop them making their point and leaving an ominous message for Mildred. When this message is passed on to her, she is fearful for the fate of her beloved sister, and this triggers some flashbacks as we get to delve further into the life of Mildred and her older sister Millicent.

It’s not good – turns out they were members of a Zen cult run by am extremely questionable man whom the show heavily hints has more than a passing interest in the young women under his care, Millicent in particular. What we see in these flashbacks explains a lot about Mildred’s anger, her unwillingness to knuckle down under any authority, and her deep-seated guilt about her sister and why she is so desperate to save her from her fate.

Enlisting the help of LaDonna, Mildred heads to the 44orumers’ camp, but neither of them can possibly be prepared for what they witness there.

Back at the hotel, with her powers returned, Shanice is reluctantly persuaded to make use of them to try to find any clue she can about what happened to Rev. What she sees deepens the mystery further still, and adds to the laundry list of anxieties she has about the situation in which they find themselves. That isn’t helped by Andre’s determination to accept an invitation to a face to face meeting with their mysterious benefactors. With 44orumers roaming the streets and the tipline in force, she worries what might happen to him outside the safety of the hotel walls, though safety is relative given what’s happening in the world outside.

Confronted with no other option, Claudette shares what she knows about Manny with Jharrell, which simply acts to reinforce the latter’s worst fears about his brother. Can he track Manny down in time to find answers before the authorities are involved in Rev’s apparent murder and subsequent disappearance? And will any of it matter if Manny’s apparent plans come to fruition?

Verdict: Plenty of surprises, background which sheds new light on a key character and always tense. 9/10
