It’s a blast from the past as the Cat is seduced…
This season of Red Dwarf ends with another episode that feels as if it’s plucked from an earlier time, although the emphasis on the Cat is a little unusual, but not before time. (The reason the episode might feel a little out of time is perhaps because something similar was proposed for Red Dwarf VII back in the mists of the twentieth century!)
As with all of the characters, the reality of their situation isn’t as they present it to others, or even themselves, and when Starbug goes near an area where virgins are at risk, our feline friend looks rather less like Casanova and more like Adrian Mole. Danny John Jules clearly has fun with the various things Doug Naylor throws at him during the episode, even if he rather takes a back seat in the latter part as the cute Polymorph babies grab the viewers’ attention – and then there’s yet another runaround, albeit one with a rather better ending than earlier in the season.
Verdict: Like pretty much every episode this season, there are some great Red Dwarf moments in this episode, but it’s not one that will stick in the mind for years to come. 7/10
