Dave, airing August 13

A look at the challenging logistics of the most celebrated and successful sci-fi comedy ever, told by cast and most importantly the key crew who made it happen.

Dave’s fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the production of Red Dwarf continues with another hour of new interviews, vintage footage and more.

Last week we discovered that the show’s lyrics once included the line ‘I want to taste lobsters and coconuts!’, that Robert Llewelyn once considered playing Kryten as Swedish and that Alfred Molina was originally cast as Rimmer. There’s even more little gems this week, and honestly, only a smeghead would spoil them in a preview.

We pick up at the start of Season 3, when the show that we know today was fully formed. With new opening credits, an upbeat version of the theme song and the addition of Robert Llewellyn’s Kryten, Red Dwarf emerged from its chrysalis was opening 1989, developed a cult following. Highlights this week include Howard Burden talking about his fantastic costume design and Mike Tucker on the late Peter Wragg’s visual effects legacy.

Verdict: Another hour of fun fun fun in the sun sun sun for Dwarfers. 8/10
