A young couple finally manage to get onto the property ladder by purchasing a flat that has a dark past.
It’s impossible to discuss this episode without going in to spoilers, so if you really don’t want the first of many shocks to be ruined for you, step away for now.
Still here? Then you’ll probably have been as surprised as I was that the young couple Beattie and Sam (Jenna Coleman and Kadiff Kirwan) are not the key players in this horror drama.
If the flat looks familiar and the ping pong ball eye used for inappropriate Tina Turner impressions isn’t a giveaway, the big news is that the Sowerbutts used to live here. Cast yourself back to 2010 and the first series of Psychoville where we met Maureen (Reece Shearsmith) and son David. You may have thought that their story had played out, but Maureen’s death has not stopped her domineering her son as he forges a relationship. Will there be a happy ever after? What do you think?
Verdict: A welcome return of two wonderful creations, it’s great to see that Inside No. 9 and Psychoville exist in the same universe, leaving the door open for other crossovers. It’s a dark half hour, but the audacious twists and turns will keep you glued to the screen. Two episodes in to this season and surely this is the one to beat. Oh, and there’s a lovely Shawshank Redemption gag.
10/10
