Eve isn’t the only one to find gaps in her memory…
Michael Bihm’s debut script for the show gives a bit more attention to the Watson family, complete with new baby, than we’ve had in much of the series. Meanwhile the Calimov crew – now temporarily including Lily and Will on work experience – are on the hunt for missing childbots, including KT, as Eve tries to work out why she can’t remember what happened to her in the park. We know – and Will tries to tell everyone, to little effect initially – that it’s down to Mary Douglas, but even Katherine, who’s clearly got something to hide regarding her own recovery, refuses to believe she’s somehow managed to get inside the mainframe. There’s some nice work from both Ben Cartwright and Rhona Croker as the inverted relationship between Nick and Katherine hits home.
The Watson scenes are touching, and it’s good to have the family all together; at times, particularly in the resolution of the problem with Viv’s mother, Gloria, it feels more like a season 1 episode (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). The other thread – involving Calimov, Price and Mary – is ramping up the tension, and the combination of the two doesn’t always quite mesh.
Verdict: Enjoyable as always, but the SF and family elements are quite distinct. 7/10
