Cally arrives as the Clone Masters’ Conclave continues…

Tim Foley’s three part story comes to a conclusion with this intricate tale, that builds upon the brief reference to the end of the Clone Masters in a Series C episode (as Peter Anghelides points out in the extras for those of us who aren’t as completely au fait with Blake’s 7’s continuity). Although it resolves certain issues, and definitely makes this box set feel like a complete story, there’s plenty at the end left to be dealt with, not least the proposition regarding Travis that I was looking forward at the end of the middle instalment.

There’s a double role for Jan Chappell here, with Cally finally catching up with her sister, and there’s never any doubt from Chappell’s performance which of the two we’re listening to. Brian Croucher similarly delivers the goods, with his Travis going from the wrecked version Cally first encounters back to something very like his old self by the end of the episode.

Lisa Bowerman’s casting works well across the board with Becky Wright’s Kiz a character I’d certainly like to know more about. amie Robertson is put through his paces for the sound design, although the electronic music doesn’t personally work for me.

Verdict: I’ve always been a fan of extended universe tales for franchises, and this three-parter has again demonstrated the wealth of possibility in Blake’s 7. 9/10
