Cally and Jenna follow a lead provided by an old “friend” of Jenna’s…
Tim Foley’s trilogy of stories that build on the mythology established in the Series B story Weapon starts with this tale which sets up the various mysteries well, and puts the focus on both Sally Knyvette and Jan Chappell’s past, with revelations about each that put what follows in proper context. The earlier scenes between Knvyette and Abigail Thaw’s Hinton (a psychostrategist like Carnell from the original episode, and I’m guessing named in tribute to the late Craig Hinton) sparkle as each very obviously doesn’t trust the other.
That mistrust continues when the action moves to a location tied to the Clone Masters, and Tilly Vosburgh’s Dr Sim has a very extreme reaction to seeing Cally. We end up with a situation that feels a little familiar, but which is played out with absolute sincerity by the cast. Director Lisa Bowerman paces the episode nicely and the resolution isn’t perhaps what you might expect. Jamie Robertson’s sound design works well, although the score on this occasion feels a little too electronic.
Verdict: Plenty of mysteries set up for the Liberator crewmembers to investigate. 7/10
