At just over 40 minutes, Mazey Day is something of a palette cleanser after the overlong Somewhere Beyond the Sea, and for a great deal of its running time you have no real idea where it’s going.
Bo (Zazie Beetz) is a struggling photographer who is offered riches if she can secure shots of the elusive actor Mazey Day (Clara Rugaard), who hasn’t been seen in public since a recent European shoot. Written by Charlie Brooker, what follows is Bo and her gang of fellow paps following Mazey to a remote location and discovering what really happened. And, in a million years, I’d never have guessed, which is a big tick in the box for what on the surface looked like a formulaic outing.
Verdict: Not particularly Black Mirror in tone, but a short, sharp little shocker. Great fun. 8/10
