Fabulous Films, out now

In a future world devastated by disease, a convict is sent back in time to gather information about the man-made virus that wiped out most of the human population on the planet.

Who genuinely could have predicted that one off the final sell through DVD releases of the year would include a free pandemic face mask? But 2020 has been that sort of year, and once you’ve watched the movie at least there’s a practical way to keep your memories of it alive while out shopping.

Terry Gilliam’s 1985 sci-fi thriller, based on 1962 short La Jetée, has had a number of home entertainment releases over the years, most recently a Blu-ray from Arrow but if you’re not looking for a high definition transfer, this Secret Santa priced DVD will give you all you need.

The movie is itself an award-winning  masterpiece, a perfect storm of performances from Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt and Madeleine Stowe, directed by former Python Terry Gilliam at the top of his game from a literate script by Blade Runner and Unforgiven writer David Peoples and Janet Peoples.

In addition to the movie there’s the feature-length 88-minute documentary The Hamster Factor and Other Tales of Twelve Monkeys

Verdict: Mask up and enjoy some escapist entertainment about a man-made virus that’s taken over the planet. As if that could ever happen… 9/10
