A soldier wakes up in someone else’s body and discovers he’s part of an experimental government program to find the bomber of a commuter train.

Duncan (Moon) Jones’ lean 2011 time loop thriller impresses with its new 4K transfer and some great storytelling.

Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) is on a mission to identify a bomber who destroyed a train just hours earlier and who plans to kill thousands more with a much larger explosion in the heart of Chicago. Each time he returns to the train, Colter has just eight minutes to uncover the bomber’s identity.

Gyllenhaal is supported by a strong cast – Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, Jeffrey Wright – and the story will keep you guessing right up to the very end. In fact, even when you know what happens, the joy is in revisiting it to see where you missed the clues.

There’s an audio commentary with star Jake Gyllenhaal, director Duncan Jones and writer Ben Ripley, as well as some cast and crew insights and a feature on the science behind the movie.

Verdict: One of the best sci-fi thrillers of the 2010s pops with a blast of HDR colour. 9/10
