After seeing A Quiet Place: Day One Alasdair Stuart ended up rewatching the other two movies and was very pleasantly surprised to see how well the trilogy connects and evolves. Here’s how events in the three movies play out, setting up next year’s A Quiet Place Part III…

June 8th 2020: Day 1

The asteroids carrying the Death Angels fall into Earth’s atmosphere.

In Millbrook, a town outside New York, Lee Abbott and his family flee a massacre in the town and begin the work of fortifying their farmhouse home. Lee, a gifted engineer with implied military or law enforcement training, begins researching the invaders in order to fight back.

Friend of the family Emmett loses his sons on the first day and fortifies his house along with his wife.

In New York, Reuben, a hospice care nurse, leads a field trip to a theatre. When the Death Angels fall, Reuben, patient Sam and her service cat Frodo are among the only survivors. They hide in the theatre for a time along with other survivors, including Henri, who will go on to become a leader of the island colony near the Abbott farm.

June 9th, 10th, 11th 2020: Days 2, 3 and 4

Reuben is killed by a Death Angel. Sam escapes into New York where she sees a helicopter asking any survivors to head to a pier for evacuation.

Eric and Sam meet and, reluctantly, bond as they travel to Sam’s old neighbourhood. Sam sacrifices herself so Eric and Frodo can get aboard an evacuation vessel. Henri is also aboard. It’s implied his family don’t survive but their fate isn’t certain and he certainly has family members with him on the island.

June 11th to September 13th 2020

The Death Angels are everywhere. Brutally fast, near impervious to damage and savagely violent. They respond instantly and brutally to all sound. They can’t swim due to the weight of their natural armour. This is discovered by Sam and Eric in New York.

Infestations are reported in Shanghai, London, Bogota, New Delhi, New York, Moscow, Mexico City and Tokyo. Lee and Evelyn Abbott track and collate this information.

Henri and Eric arrive on an island and begin working to establish a colony.

Lee establishes a signal fire network confirming that there are several other groups still alive in the valley. Emmett and his wife are among the other survivors..

Emmett’s wife dies eleven weeks into the invasion and Emmett relocates to a steel works he fortifies. He sees the signal fire Lee Abbott lights every night, but never tries to connect with the family.

Lee and Evelyn realise that the Death Angels hunt via sound. They lay sand tracks in and out of town, walk barefoot on them and teach their children to stay silent. They discover, much as Sam and Eric did in New York during a rain storm, that it’s possible to hide ‘under’ loud noises such as waterfalls.

Gifted farmers and foragers, the family adapt relatively quickly. They’re aided by the fact that their eldest daughter, Regan, is deaf and as a result the family are proficient in sign language.

September 14th, 2020: Day 89

The Abbotts go into town on a supply run. Beau their youngest child, is killed when he places batteries in a toy space shuttle which makes noise.

Thursday May 27th, 2021: Day 353 (approx.)

The island colony is well established, well resourced and relatively safe. They begin transmitting the Bobby Darin classic, ‘Beyond the Sea’ as a means of showing people they’re alive and it’s safe to join them.

This transmission is picked up by Emmett at the Steelworks. The Abbotts, still in the valley around Millbrook, never detect it.

Day 365 (approx..)

Lee and Evelyn Abbott conceive a fourth child.

October 3rd, 2021: Day 473

Over a year after the Death Angels arrive, the Abbotts remain relatively secure in their farm. They have confirmed three Death Angels are active in the area. Lee has continued to work on a hearing aid for Regan, but the pair have grown apart. Regan blames herself for Beau’s death as she gave him the toy, and believes her father feels the same way. Lee almost perfects the hearing aid, and processes his grief through his work.

Lee and son Marcus take a fishing trip. Evelyn goes into labour early and attracts the nearest Death Angel. The baby is born successfully.

Day 474

The Death Angels lay siege to the farm. Lee is critically injured and sacrifices himself to save his children, reconciling with his daughter in his final seconds. Regan in turn discovers that the feedback loop her hearing aid generates near speakers causes the Death Angels incredible discomfort. Evelyn kills one, and the family prepare to evacuate the farm.

Day 476

Two days later, the family reach the Steelworks. Marcus is seriously injured by one of Emmett’s booby traps and Evelyn and Regan kill a second Death Angel. Emmett rescues them from a third and they learn that his family are dead. The Abbotts, at last, hear the signal from the island.

Regan leaves to find out more. Evelyn stays behind to tend to Marcus but sends Emmett out after her daughter. He rescues Regan from a fourth Death Angel, while Evelyn goes searching for medical supplies for her son.

Day 477

Evelyn returns, and rescues Marcus from a Death Angel. Regan and Emmett follow the signal to the shore where they’re briefly trapped by a group who seem to be trafficking humans. Using their shared knowledge of sign language, Emmet warns Regan to ‘dive’, attracts a nearby Death Angel and the traffickers are killed. The pair row to the island and are astounded to discover people talking freely and playing music.

Day 478

The pair meet Henri, now the leader of the colony who explains how they got there from New York. Emmett discovers one of the Death Angels from the dock has drifted to the island on a wrecked boat. It attacks the colony, killing several people before Henri, Emmett and Regan lead it away.

Back at the steelworks, another Death Angel appears. Evelyn and Marcus fail to close their shelter and the Death Angel reaches for them, injuring Evelyn.

On the island, Henri gets Regan and Emmett to the radio station they’ve been transmitting from but is killed. Emmett is injured and Regan attaches her hearing aid to the tower sending a massively powerful signal that disables every Death Angel for miles. Regan rescues Emmett, killed the Death Angel in the radio station. Marcus kills the one in the Steelworks, saving his mother and brother.

Humanity now has a weapon against the Death Angels.
