Arrow Video, out now

After narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.

Richard Kelly’s surreal drama thriller celebrates its 20th anniversary with a beautiful UHD upgrade of both its Theatrical Cut and Directors Cut, courtesy of new 4K scans from the original camera negatives in Arrow Films’ limited edition set.

For those balking at the prospect of double-dipping (or maybe triple-dipping?) this is worth the spend if you have the right equipment to watch it on; the HDR detail in the blacks is a revelation, and that’s very relevant when consider that a lot of the film is in the dark. Or maybe the prospect of the 100-page hardcover book with new writing, interviews and illustrations of promo materials will swing it for you?

The Theatrical Cut features multiple audio commentaries, a comprehensive documentary, deleted and alternate scenes. The Director’s Cut has an audio commentary by Kelly and filmmaker Kevin Smith, a production diary, documentary and a whole bunch of archival content, including the video of Mad World by Gary Jules.

Verdict: You won’t get a better presentation of this very definition of a cult film, with Arrow predictably pulling out all the stops. Even if you find the film occasionally impenetrable – and time has not made it clearer to follow – you have to admire this comprehensive capsule of the movie and its production. 9/10
