Norton has to be a hero. Even if he really really doesn’t like heights…
Things are wrapped up nicely in James Goss’ conclusion to this six-episode saga, with Gideon and Andy escaping back into the real world and Norton manipulating them and events to ensure that all the threats are neutralised. We learn that Andy has been manipulating the situation for rather longer than we’d been led to believe – except that of course that’s not the whole story.
This has been an interesting sidestep for the Torchwood range, and one that I hope will be repeated – the shorter six-episode format has suited the storytelling, with director Scott Handcock eliciting some strong work from Samuel Barnett, Joe Shire and Tom Price as the central characters. I’d like to know more about David Troughton’s Rigsby and Dervla Kirwan’s Lizbeth, and the Torchwood that they oversaw – not to mention the possibility of stories told entirely within the walls of Project Hermod. Steve Foxon’s sound design has been terrific throughout, and Blair Mowat’s score suited the mood.
Verdict: A satisfying conclusion to a very enjoyable box set. 9/10
