Sergeant Andy Davidson – racist killer? Surely not…

The second box set of Aliens Among Us finishes with some real surprises – the final confrontation in the Hub I didn’t see coming (and frankly, I can’t see how anyone could have done – which doesn’t mean that the producers and writers aren’t playing fair with us… assuming we get a decent explanation in the concluding set!). And that’s after a story that constantly plays with our assumptions about who and what Torchwood are, and what they will do for the greater good.

Tim Foley’s script juggles multiple different plotlines well, with a number of occasions where you’re just thinking “well, what’s X up to now” as the story moves across to them. There’s plenty for everyone to do – notably Kai Owen and Tom Price – with Alexandria Riley, Sam Beart and Paul Clayton once again reminding us how strong this new central Torchwood team is. Sarah Annis’s PC Owen is a strong addition, and I hope that she features further (particularly in light of Andy’s decision at the end of the episode) while Rachel Atkins’ Ro-Jedda gets a bit more airtime.

I’ve enjoyed the majority of the Torchwood audios that Big Finish have produced over the past few years, but Aliens Among Us has stepped things up a quantum level. Roll on the finale!

Verdict: A strong finale for this batch of tales. 9/10
