Owen brings Andy chips while he’s on a stakeout – there couldn’t be some ulterior motive, could there?

James Goss’ new Torchwood tale is pretty much a two-hander for Burn Gorman and Tom Price, and builds from a real world scandal (and the comments on that are enough to make me go and look again at the reports about it). For separate reasons, Andy and Torchwood have an interest in a certain Cardiff businessman and it seems as if he’s done far better for himself than you might expect.

Gorman and Price make a very good double act – there’s some good natured banter, and some rather harder hitting comments between them – and this is set at a very particular point in the Torchwood timeline that allows both characters to get a certain amount off their chests. The relevance of the three monkeys referred to in the title becomes clear as the story progresses (although quite why Andy’s police car has left hand drive isn’t unless I missed a reference!).

Iain Meadows’ sound design is effective, particularly during a portion when one of our heroes is being chased, and Scott Handcock allows the more tragic elements the space to breathe.

Verdict: Torchwood’s odd couple play well together once more. 8/10
