Demon Records’ annual Record Store Day Doctor Who release is the original television soundtrack to William Hartnell’s final full story.

The October 1966 classic is presented across two discs (on episode per side) 1409 vinyl, one white and the other silver. As we’ve come to expect, the packaging is impressive, with the outer sleeve embellished with foil detailing on the Mondasian Cyberman, while the inner sleeves present episode details in the style of 1960s Radio Times billings.

Anneke Wills (Polly) provides the linking narration, adding some necessary clarity to a story which was designed to be watched. Saying that, it’s remarkably straightforward to follow and Mark Ayres has done a sterling job with the digital remastering.

Verdict: One of those discs that you wish you’d had as a child, you can now enjoy the show’s first on-screen regeneration in a gorgeous collector’s edition. 10/10
