Demon Records, out now

The Doctor and Mrs Wibbsey are kidnapped by menacing robots and transported through a wormhole to an extravagant palace, floating in space, a hundred thousand years in the future…

In many ways this is a redundant review because I’ve previously waxed lyrical about the stunning presentation of the first two box sets for the Nest Cottage series of Doctor Who LPs, written by Paul Magrs, and this final limited edition (1,200 copies) volume completes the collection with the same quality product.

As before, there are five stories presented over 10 discs – this time it’s Tsar Wars, The Broken Crown, Aladdin Time, The Hexford Invasion and Survivors in Space. First released on CD in 2011, this follows Hornets’ Nest and Demon Quest, Tom Baker’s Doctor once again joined by Richard Franklin as Captain Mike Yates, Susan Jameson as Mrs Wibbesey and David Troughton as ‘the Visitor’. (For our reviews of the separate episodes, click here.)

Collectors who picked up volumes 1 and 2 will already know what to expect – deluxe packaging, a hand-signed print by Tom Baker and beautifully designed, fully illustrated LP sleeves and booklet. The discs are pressed on 140g green & black vinyl. Lined up on your shelf, the sets represent a weighty bar that other collectors’ sets will be measured against.

Verdict: The final volume in a gorgeous series – the presentation is the definition of prestige. 9/10
