Demon Records, out now
The Doctor’s return to Nest Cottage lands him in trouble when a key component from the TARDIS disappears.
As with last year’s Demon Records release of Hornet’s Nest, their vinyl boxset of Paul Magrs’ 2010 sequel, Demon Quest, is a collector’s dream.
This 10-disc box is quite the beast – and you may need to brace your shelves before lining it up alongside other prized Doctor Who possessions. While the Blu-ray season boxsets are seen by many as the gold standard in the show’s collectibles, for my money, this is the ultimate display of quality.
For a start, every copy of the set includes a frameable portrait of the Fourth Doctor, hand signed by Tom Baker, accessed via an intricate die-cut outer sleeve which leads to the box housing the individual 140g platters, which alternate red and black. Each of the sleeves is illustrated, with full cast and credits listed, though this is eclipsed by the 16-page Doctor’s Journal, another LP-sized work of art, illustrated with key moments from this series’ adventures.
Verdict: If you’re just here for the audio, there’s cheaper ways to listen to Tom Baker’s second series in Paul Magrs’ trilogy. But if you want a high-end Doctor Who collectible, this is a beauty. 10/10
