Titan Comics, out now

Missy’s up to her old (or new?) tricks and is plotting to retrieve a portion of the Key to Time from an unbreakable vault. To do so, she tried to break a former incarnation of herself out of Stormcage prison, but things didn’t go to plan.

The second of this four-part adventure from Titan’s Doctor Who Comic team that celebrates 50 years of the Master, is a lot of fun, peppered with cameos of popular legacy characters, but you can’t help feeling that there’s a lot of walking down corridors when things should be moving along.

The comic book medium allows stories that couldn’t be made on TV for countless reasons, including budget or practicality, so while it’s great to see that the opportunity to use the late Roger Delgado’s Master has been embraced, the adventure feels like it’s been limited to a re-dressed corridor set in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. Missy is a great character and Jody Houser is clearly relishing writing the witty interplay between her and her former incarnation – I just wish things would move forward.

Verdict: With the addition of a fan favourite to the story, this anniversary now has all the ingredients for a memorable comics crossover event. Fingers crossed that things soon shift up a gear. 6/10
