Titan Comics, out now
Missy and the Master have broken out of Stormcage prison with a little help from River Song, the Master using the Key to Time for his own nefarious purposes.
Titan’s four-part tribute to the Master’s 50th Anniversary slips out into time and space for its third issue, broadening its horizons from the largely single location of the first two. Visiting the Doctor (and Master) at different points in their time streams lets us revisit memorable moments, tapping into the celebratory vibe.
The two Masters observe the events from the sidelines, but Delgado Master still hasn’t clocked that Missy is his future self. The pace is an improvement on the first two issues, and the use of old stories is fun, but it’s still not buzzing yet. My belief is that while the Doctor is there on the fringes, her/his direct involvement is greatly needed – maybe this will be addressed in the final issue.
Verdict: Fun, and with some welcome nods to the past, but this event comic is still lacking a certain spark. 7/10
