Titan Comics, out now
Doom, the universe’s greatest assassin, is in pursuit of the Doctor, hoping they can save her from Death.
It’s Titan’s turn to join the multi-media Doctor Who event, Doom’s Day, bringing in their regular writer/artist combo of Jody Houser and Roberta Ingranata for 0600-0700 of the 24 hour countdown.
It’s New York 1883 at a masked ball and Missy is masquerading as the Doctor. Doom is also there, tracking the real Doctor, concerned that there’s something slightly ‘off’ about the moment – too many anachronisms and literal cat burglars.
It’s a fun issue, and we get a different sort of protagonist who is just as quick to shoot her adversaries than outwit them, but there’s still those niggling concerns that I’ve had with previous Titan comics – it all feels a bit low budget in scale and drawn out.
Verdict: Frothy and easy to read, but there’s not a lot of depth to any of this. 5/10
