Panini, out now

The 9th Doctor and Rose find themselves where they really shouldn’t be…

DWM’s contribution to the Time Lord Victorious saga is twofold this month – there’s a couple of major features which give tantalising hints about what’s in store, and a timeline devised by TLV creator James Goss which shows the paths for the different elements involved.

The main item though – which is a separate supplement – is the first part of their comic strip. Where Titan focused on the 10th Doctor, DWM sees the return of the 9th Doctor and Rose, arriving somewhere that puts the Doctor on edge, particularly when he hears the name of some of the technology – and meets a very unpleasant character with a very familiar name. A number of the key concepts for the series are introduced in this strip, and things that might seem off kilter are very much meant to be so.

John Ross’ artwork is vivid while Scott Gray’s script makes it feel like it was only yesterday that we were following this team’s adventures – rather than over 15 years ago! The imagery that we’ve had on the posters of Rose is explained (no, contrary to some theories, it’s not the Moment a few years early), and there are some shocking moments as the story moves into horror territory.

Verdict: A very strong start, and a welcome return for the TARDIS team that kicked it all back off again. 9/10
