Titan Comics, out now
The Empress’ second-in-command, D’Pau, has secured an army of Sontarans.
The multi-Doctor/Rose comic event concludes with about as much excitement as the previous three issues… i.e. sadly not a lot. Starting with the two Roses kicking some alien butt, there’s not an awful lot going on here, with the Sontarans literally reduced to standing in the background, chanting Sontar-Ha!
If you though the belligerent clones were defeated a little too easily in Flux, just wait till you see what’s needed to vanquish them here. It’s not quite clicking the heels of some ruby slippers, but it’s not far off. And perhaps this is the biggest issue here – it’s just all a bit too straightforward and lacking in anything that clever. With all these legacy assets to play with in the sandbox, it could have been great. Sadly, it’s just OK.
Verdict: Amiable but uninspired – a rather thin plot has been stretched over four issues. Something of a non-event. 6/10
