Writer: Steve Gallagher

Artist: Martin Geraghty

The second chapter of the new Gods & Monsters series featuring legacy Doctor Who characters and races.

Faustine is a Tharil Princess cut off from her own people and thrown into a crisis situation in modern-day Manchester. Depending on her slave engineer companion for survival, can the pair survive the perils yet to come? Written by Warriors’ Gate author Steve Gallagher, Faustine is a feisty, leonine, anti-heroine, and she’s delicious fun.

Pursued by a Gundan robot in enhanced armour – she’s being tracked by six power-limiting needles – Faustine and her accomplice, a former slave, crash around contemporary England, complete with Covid face masks. Gallagher is clearly having a ball, his script crackling with wit and invention, the art by Doctor Who Magazine regular Martin Geraghty up to his usual standard.

The bonus DVD with this release includes a conversation with Gallagher, into the Gallagherverse, a commentary on Warriors’ Gate with Steve Gallagher, Matthew Waterhouse and Graeme Harper, and a second commentary with director Paul Joyce.

Verdict: Gallagher is always a delight to read and Faustine a welcome new addition to the Gallagherverse. 9/10
