Titan Comics, out now

The Doctor takes her crew to a parade on the planet Devivian, but soon finds herself on the wrong side of the law.

This new story doesn’t take long to kick into gear, the Doctor being arrested in the opening pages for allegedly stealing the Gem of Niag. Of course, we don’t believe this for a moment, but detectors picked up the readings of a female with two hearts. But if not the Doctor, who else would fit that criteria?

The obvious suspect is of course the Doctor’s ‘frenemy’ Missy, but would she be so sloppy in her execution of the theft, and why would a valuable gem appeal to her? The Doctor isn’t prepared to hang around to find out and effects an exciting prison break, leading the local security forces back to the TARDIS, just in time for the getaway. Whoever has taken the gem has left a trail for the team to follow, leading to a confrontation in a bar.

Verdict: It’s great to have the adventures taking place on full-on alien worlds again, and there’s a lovely mystery aspect that carries you right up to the closing panels. I wonder if you’ll guess who. 8/10
