Sam has been captured by the Auctioneers with Kate and Osgood his only chance of rescue… if they can win the games they’ve been set to play…

Matt Fitton opens this latest set of adventures for the Unified Intelligence Task Force with a fast-paced puzzler that sees Kate and Osgood working together well as they hare around the countryside trying to save the world. There’s some nice character notes in it, particularly with regard to the way in which both can sometimes overlook things – there’s bound to be a couple of times where you want to shout at the audio! Meanwhile, Sam Bishop is having his own puzzling time with mysterious heiress Julia Hartley-Price, again allowing Fitton to emphasise what makes the UNIT operative tick.

There’s good work across the board from Jemma Redgrave, Ingrid Oliver and Warren Brown while Kerry Fox’s Julia has all the makings of a very promising villain. There’s little sign of the cover stars of the set, but of course Cyber-Reality could have more than one meaning…

Ken Bentley gives the two strands very different pacing, with Howard Carter’s sound design and music helping to emphasise the difference.

Verdict: A strong opener. 9/10
