The Doctor, Chris and Roz are stranded on an island with a murderer.

The third of these “New” Adventures, continuing the Big Finish versions of the characters created for the Virgin books, is a neat little puzzle, using very familiar tropes (the Agatha Christie-esque situation on the island, unwitting vocal tics, hidden secrets known only to The Evil One, and people not being who they present themselves as) to decent effect. Its problem is that it doesn’t really do anything new with them; anyone familiar with the Virgin run won’t be surprised by the various reveals in Alan Flanagan’s script – particularly if you’re aware of how Roz dealt with racial prejudice in the books.

Sylvester McCoy, Yasmin Bannerman and Travis Oliver definitely feel like a TARDIS team that have been together for some time – the opening scenes on board the ship certainly have an ease to them that you feel when some of the established TV crews are reunited for an audio – and Scott Handcock has put a strong cast together alongside them.

Verdict: A solid Doctor Who tale. 7/10
