Someone is framing Tula and Liv needs to find answers
Robert Whitelock pens and stars in this final story of the latest Robots set, which moves everything on quite considerably. Our split plotlines finally meet – with this marking David Collings’ final appearance as Poul (barring, presumably, flashbacks) – and exactly what’s been going on becomes considerably clearer. Add to that an attempt to frame Tula and get her out of the way, and you’ve got the recipe for a strong episode.
Claire Rushbrook is more front and centre in this episode with Tula initially tasked with investigating her own malfeasance – or so it’s meant to seem. There’s wheels within wheels in all this, and I don’t think for one second that the end of one particular character’s journey means that all will be more straightforward. We know all hell is letting loose when the Doctor and Helen return for Liv, which can’t be that far in the future now, and we’re certainly getting a clearer picture of exactly what the rebellion entails.
The social media interface is something different from what you might expect, and Joe Kraemer and Kirstin Simpson’s sound design provides an auditory experience that fully justifies the nickname “tumbling” used in the script.
Verdict: It’s going to be fascinating relistening to this knowing the answers that are starting to be provided – some of Big Finish’s best worldbuilding in this series. 9/10
