Seeking help for the Doctor, Lucie meets a German tourist with some unusual ways of making friends…

From the tone of director/producer Nick Briggs’ comments in the early part of the CD extras for this release, it would seem that this might be a one-off return for Lucie. If that’s the case, then Sheridan Smith goes out with a story written by her character’s creator that showcases her very well. This is the Lucie who’s not phased by all the cosmic goings-on, and can and will stand up both for herself and for those who need her help.

It’s the second sequel to Image of the Fendahl that we’ve had this year (the Torchwood tale took a very different approach), and Alan Barnes’  script fits well with Chris Boucher’s original story, turning up the dial on the folk horror elements while retaining the core (sorry!) parts of the concept. There’s rather more links between the constituent parts of this box set than might initially appear to be the case, and it will be interesting to relisten to the first two stories in light of this one.

There’s been something wonderfully nostalgic about these stories, and I hope that there’ll be a further set somewhere down the road.

Verdict: A creepy piece of folk horror rounds off this box set nicely. 9/10
