Henry VIII is on the lookout for a new wife… will Missy become Missus?

One of the funniest scripts that John Dorney has written, this showcases Michelle Gomez’s comedic talents, partnered with Rufus Hound’s Meddling Monk. His first appearance had my daughter (who’d not heard Hound’s incarnation before) getting quite annoyed that Big Finish had got their history so wrong but the first meeting between Hound and Gomez ensured that she understood exactly where the script is coming from. The Monk’s presence (or lack thereof) during the Time War is addressed and hopefully there’ll be more stories set during this period.

Back in the mists of time, there were theories among Doctor Who fans that the Monk and the Master were the same person but if there’s anyone still ascribing to that, then this blows it out of the water. The lack of psychopathy demonstrated by one of them is enough of a clue!

Dorney lets the repartee between the two carry the story for the first part then introduces further complications in the shape of aliens on the hunt for persons of significance – leading to the inevitable moment of decision for the Monk. The humour doesn’t stop: I was convinced a certain song would have to appear at some point, and Dorney doesn’t disappoint. Nor does Joe Kraemer, whose music score for this is a delight!

Verdict: A terrific piece of audio farce. 9/10
