Litefoot goes undercover to discover the secrets of the airship over London…
This is shaping up to be one of the best box sets we’ve had of Jago and Litefoot across their years at Big Finish, with Paul Morris’ tale, which he’s adapted himself for the audiobook format, bringing together many of the pieces – and a final revelation that I’ll admit felt like it came out of the blue, but for which the clues were there. Kudos to original producer Ian Atkins for drip feeding the information so well through the opening trio of tales.
It’s a story that you have to suspect Trevor Baxter would have revelled in – Litefoot is front and centre for a good amount of time, and there’s an element in the third act that according to the extras was something that he and Christopher Benjamin were keen on. That adds yet another layer to the sterling work that Lisa Bowerman does on this as narrator. There were a couple of moments where I laughed out loud (worrying the dog and probably the people I was passing) particularly when for reasons that will become clear, it felt as if she was channelling Lady Bracknell (or is that Lady Constance…?) on top of all the other accents the story requires.
It’s a story that epitomises what Jago and Litefoot are (I refuse to accept we’re not getting further stories): two men from very different backgrounds and classes who have a friendship for which they would do anything.
Verdict: A terrific tale of vertiginous escapades. 9/10
