The Sixth Doctor and Peri arrive at an institution that can retrieve old memories – and try to ascertain the truth about a horrendous event…

Roland Moore’s tale that reunites Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant on audio for the first time in some years gives both lead actors plenty to do, as well as creating some strong characters for them to interact with. There’s not an attempt to emulate the format of their first season together – where the Doctor and Peri might be kept away from the action for some considerable time, and not encounter some of the major characters: they’re thrown into the deep end from the start.

John Ainsworth carries out triple duties as producer, script editor and director aided by clever sound design from Lee Adams, and Moore is very good at throwing curveballs at the audience (and those within the fiction). There are some definite what the hell moments that spark the story off in a new direction and the nature of the plot allows both Baker and Bryant a chance to play something a little different for parts of the time. While it’s not made too blatant, there’s plenty to say about the nature of truth, and how and why we believe what we do.

Verdict: An enjoyable start to the new trilogy. 8/10
