Characters from the Roger Hargreaves Doctor Who mashup are immortalised in solid vinyl and provide the ideal Christmas gift solution for the Doctor Who fan in your life.
While they still struggle to get an official title (are they Mr Men, Dr Men or just inhabitants of the Hargreavesverse?) what’s undeniable is the popularity of the range of books released in 2017, with eight Doctors (and a Christmas special) currently on bookshelves and a further four early next year.
No doubt inspired by sales of the ubiquitous vinyl Funko Pop figures stacked floor-to-ceiling in most fantasy merchandise shops, the 11cm characters are packaged in similar-sized boxes, and share a similar price point of £9.99. Each of the four in this first phase (Drs First, Fourth, Eleventh and Twelfth) come with a removable display plinth on which the figure can be turned on the support peg to face your chosen direction. Or they can stand independently if space (and time?) is an issue.
We were sent the glorious Capaldi Dr. Twelfth figurine with sonic sunglasses, unkempt grey hair and almost smile.
Verdict: if you’re already sold on the Hargreaves/Who fusion – and you’re be a real Mr Mean if you’re not – these cute figurines will happily fill up your display cabinet or proudly stand on your workstation. 8/10
