Titan Comics, out now

Los Angeles 2009 and Dr Kine has transferred her consciousness into a Replicant named Asa. Failing to convince Dr Kine’s brother, Marcus, that he was once his sister, Asa goes to Dr Kine’s apartment to retrieve proof.

We’re thrown straight in to the action on top of Kine’s apartment block, with Moreaux in hot pursuit of his prey. Making their way down to street level, the Blade Runner makes his way across a rain-lashed street, jumping on the roofs of cars. It’s a glorious throwback to Deckard chasing Zhora in Ridley Scott’s 1982 movie, and just one of the many references to the source material that we’re being spoiled with in this series.

Moreaux has been given one week to catch the rogue Nexus 5 Replicant, or his sick sister will be killed. It’s quite an ultimatum and Moreaux now needs to descend into the underworld before time runs out. The art continues to impress, the plot filters through at just the right rate, and there’s always a hook to coax out back next time.

Verdict: Los Angeles in 2009 is proving just as lethal as Deckard’s 2019, and we just can’t get enough of this retrofuturistic dystopia. 8/10
