Titan Comics, out now

It’s 2029 and Ash finds herself a prisoner in Replicant leader Yotun’s base. Subjecting her to a drug-induced brainwashing process, he submerges her in a rejuvenation tank.

The Blade Runner comic book sequel series finds its lead, Ash, out of action for most of this issue, relying on her lover Freysa to enter Yotun’s fold with a plan to locate and release her. Unfortunately, Yotun is not prepared to take Freysa and her entourage at face value, taking her with him as a hostage on his “most important mission.”

It’s to writer Mike Johnson’s credit that even when Ash is out of the picture, her presence is still to be found in the actions of the supporting human and Replicant characters, each of which is developing his/her/their own identity. There’s a also a great shootout near the end, setting up a tasty seventh instalment.

Verdict: We’re halfway through this series and there’s just the right amount of plot being revealed to keep us fully involved in this exciting run. 8/10
