Titan Comics, out now
From the rain soaked dystopic world of Los Angeles 2019 to the never-before-seen promised land of the Off-World colonies, Replicant-hating Blade Runner Ash’ search for the runaway wife and child of a rich industrialist takes her where no other Blade Runner has ever gone before.
The second movement of Titan’s spinoff of Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic collects issues 5 to 8 and marks another successful chapter in this ongoing series. Blade Runner Ash is struggling who to believe, and who is pulling whose strings, as she meets another Blade Runner and tries to track down her ward.
As with the first volume, the excellent artwork by Andres Guinaldo is stunning, true to the world created in Scott’s masterpiece. From the clothing, to the tech, to the future noir environment, it’s all authentic, helping Blade Runner 2949 writer Michael Green and Mike Johnson’s script land perfectly.
Verdict: The Blade Runner brand continues to be in rude health thanks to this quality comic book series. The characters being fully established, this second volume doesn’t have to rely on callbacks or Easter Eggs to prove its authenticity and there’s plenty of twists and turns to keep you engaged. Ash will return in a new chapter in Los Angeles 2027. Can’t wait. 9/10
