Titan Comics, out now
With her back brace fully repaired, Blade Runner Ash sets off for a final confrontation with Selwyn, who is protected by a squad of Hythe Replicants.
The first year of Titan’s follow-up comic to the Ridley Scott sci-fi classic concludes here, but don’t worry, new series Blade Runner 2029 follows next year.
Selwyn confirms that he continued the work of creator Eldon Tyrell after The Blackout, but his own intentions were far less benevolent. It’s time for a settling of scores, but Ash is heavily outnumbered by the multiple Hythes and a replicated lion, as well as being hobbled by a remote controlled pain device on her spinal brace.
Thankfully, rescue comes in the purest form, and there’s some justice meted out, even if things are not settled to everyone’s satisfaction. Johnson and Green resolve enough threads to draw a line under this chapter while also providing Ash a big enough sandbox for the future tales. As always, Andres Guinaldo’s artwork is stunning, visually connecting the prose to the iconic dystopian future that thankfully never came to pass.
Verdict: Time to go… but not forever. A satisfying conclusion to a well-crafted tale, tasting even sweeter when knowing that there’s more to come. 9/10
