Titan, out now

A gallery and behind-the-scenes look at the first season of the Disney+ Star Wars spinoff TV show. Warning: contains cute shots of Baby Yoda.

Remember the days when we were told that Mando’s companion was The Child, and not Baby Yoda, long before we found out that his actual name was the less-interesting Grogu? Titan seem a little late to the party with this season 1 tie-in guide, the second season of the show having already aired, and I wonder if it’s because they’ve stepped in following the recent cancellation of the planned Dorling Kindersley guide to the show?

As this is a licensed product, we get plenty of official, colour stills. Arguably, too many photos at the expense of the text, which is sparse. Whole pages and spreads are devoted to single photos, which may be beautifully reproduced, but means that you can read the guide in a single, brief setting.

After an intro that sets up the show, we have individual sections devoted to the main character – The Mandalorian, The Child, Greef Carga, and so on. After a few choice shots of the character in action, the profile conclude with copy and photos from behind the scenes, and these are by far the most interesting images. Oh, and did you know that Cara Dune’s first name is Carasynthia? Not that we’ll be seeing her in the show again, but at least Disney haven’t employed any revisionist erasing of her history.

There’s an interesting section which references the different planets that we visited across the eight episodes, and some features on the craft (and animals) used to get around the environs.

Verdict: 102 pages is a decent page count, but far too much of this volume is spent on photos when a bit more text would have given it some heft. Pretty, but not essential. 6/10
