A Visual Guide to the Wizarding World

by Elizabeth Dowsett

DK, out now

A guide to the characters in the LEGO Potterverse.

This looks like a very thick guide – along the lines of the Marvel or DC celebration books that DK have put out – until you realise that over the half the depth comes from the packaging for the exclusive Tom Riddle figure that comes as a free incentive to buy.

The book itself does exactly what it says on the cover – it’s a visual guide to the characters and places from the Harry Potter world (so there’s some material from Fantastic Beasts including a Grindelwald figure), with a very short potted biography of everyone from Harry to Professor Flitwick as a choir master complete with baton. The guides to locations include both in-universe information as well as facts on the kits – you won’t be surprised as to which requires the most bricks.

The most fascinating section is the Behind the Scenes six pages, which goes into some detail on the changes in minifigures and LEGO itself that have either assisted the creation of the Potterverse, or have been created for that and extended outside.

Verdict: For those into LEGO and/or Potter this will be a useful addition to the bookshelves – if only to frighten themselves with just how many different items there are. 7/10
