The Constellations series of compact studies in science fiction film and TV takes a look at Terry Gilliam’s 1995 sci-fi drama.

It might be just over 100 pages long, but Susanne Kord’s dive into 12 Monkeys still manages to cram in a lot of detail and analysis, the professor at University College London clearly having a passion and great understanding of the movie.

Peppered with black and white stills, you could rush through this work in an hour, and you’d come away suitably enlightened. There’s also a formidably detailed Bibliography and footnotes at end of each chapter, helping you pursue further reading.

Verdict: Grab a copy of Arrow’s excellent Blu-Ray and then revisit the classic movie, with this handbook at your side. Academic without being impenetrable, you’ll no doubt come away feeling more enlightened. And then you go back in fine and start again! 8/10
