“I wonder if this is the case that, pushes people, more than any other, towards belief?”

What case? Alanbrooke Hall’s room 611, of course. In a change from the original plan for episode 4 (and we do trust that it was the right call not to hold the listen live the previous week) we have a double-feature to enjoy. This instalment is a lively conversation between Danny, Gary and Bloody Hell Ken™ that took place at the first Uncanny Con earlier this year.

Gary regales us with stories from his time as a student during The Troubles and this once again reminds us of the stage that was set for the strange experiences that took place.

There is masterful use of a phrase that definitely needs to make a comeback – ‘heebie-jeebies’ – as the men reflect on those times, and an admission from Ken that “we might never get to the bottom of it.” Despite that, there’s an excellent scientific explanation mooted for the banging on the doors that witnesses described: ‘Helmholtz Resonance’. You always learn something new with Uncanny! I tend to agree with Gary that scientific investigation has only scratched the surface of the paranormal, though. And Danny’s quote from the heading of this review? That’s what truly scares Ken!

Verdict: The endlessly fascinating and deeply uncanny case that started it all still has us in its grip. 7/10
