Why are Soho gangsters starving to death?

It’s a return to the old days of Lionheart and Dunning for this latest Scarifyers adventure – but not with a recast Nicholas Courtney. This is a story told by Terry Molloy in character as Dunning which allows writer Roland Moore to present the professor in a new light, leading to some laugh out loud sections as he tries to keep up with everything that’s going on. (And also spectacularly miss the point on occasion!)

It’s the sort of case that MI13 (or MIB as people keep misreading on their cards) was created to deal with – or at least, I’m sure Lionheart and Dunning’s boss would tell you that if you could understand him through the assorted comestibles he devours whenever he’s meeting with them. Rather handily, it’s one which requires Dunning to lead parts of the investigation, and it sounds as if Terry Molloy is having fun pitting him against Lionel Stackley’s poetic gang boss (a man who could give Vogons lessons in bad poetry).

Mark Hendrick’s sound design and Evelyn Sykes’ score aid Molloy’s terrific performance, and while it’ll be fun to hear Molloy and David Warner once more, these solo audiobooks allow us to enjoy further adventures.

Verdict: Mixing the mundane and the paranormal once more, this is a fun new adventure for the Scarifyers. 8/10
